Two arrested for duping job-seekers in AP

Two persons, including a woman, have been arrested for allegedly duping 37 youths to the tune of Rs 55 lakh by promising them jobs in an IT giant, police said. The Crime Investigation Department (CID) of Andhra Pradesh has made these arrests. The accused–K Srilakshmi and her associate G Anand- duped the youths across the state under the pretext of providing jobs in IBM company, police said.

Based on their mobile phone numbers and e-mail IDs, the duo was today remanded in judicial custody, a police officer said. According to a complainant, an engineering graduate, he had submitted his resume in different job consultancy services in Hyderabad online and said that one Srilakshmi called him in November promising him a job in IBM, for which, he was asked to pay Rs 1.6 lakh as processing fees.

The victim was sent an e-mail that contained an offer letter, which, he took as true and deposited the amount in the bank account of the accused. “Despite making the payment, the victim did not get a job and later realised that he had been duped,” senior CID officer said. IBM authorities also denied issuing such offer letters and following the investigation, Srilakshmi and Anand were arrested.

During the interrogation, they admitted that they had cheated 37 youths by collecting Rs 55 lakh from them, police officer said adding “the fraudsters also conducted fake HR interviews of the victims in a building in Pune that had name boards of IBM company.” Efforts are on to nab four absconding fraudsters, who also played a key role in this case, they said.
