Trs Wants T-Region Declared Drought-Hit

Hyderabad, Nov.5: TRS legislators and MP Vijayashanti called on Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy at Secretariat on Saturday and demanded that the entire Telangana region be declared drought affected area and provide required relief to the farmers.

The TRS delegation represented to the Chief Minister regarding the plight of the farmers in the Telangana region due to the crops going dry for lack of water and insufficient rainfall. They wanted the State government to come to the rescue of the farmers forthwith by providing an input subsidy of Rs 15,000 and other relief. They also demanded that the government cancel the tenders pertaining to the Polavaram project.

Speaking to the media later, Ms Vijayashanthi lashed out at the Chief Minister for his inaction and lack of response to the plight of the farmers due to the crop failure.

Earlier, the TRS legislators, MP and other party workers staged a dharna before the HACA Office demanding immediate relief to the drought-affected farmers of the Telangana region.

TRS Legislature Party leader Etela Rajendar demanded that the government cancel the Polavaram tenders and order a probe into irregularities in this connection. Demanding that the government immediately declare the entire Telangana region as drought affected, Rajender wanted the government to pay Rs 1,500 as input subsidy to the farmers. The TRS leader also demanded that the government give three years age relaxation to Sub Inspector candidates by increasing the higher age limit to 33 years from 30.

TRS Politburo member and Siddipet MLA Harish Rao accused the government of trying to suppress the Telangana agitation with police force and demanded it to lift the NSA case filed against Dr Cheruku Sudhakar. Alleging that the police forces were terrorising the agitators with third degree methods, he demanded that the Chief Minister discipline the overzealous lathi-weilding police personnel immediately. He also warned that the agitation would be intensified if the Chief Minister failed to respond to their appeals. (NSS)
