TN Govt slaps another case against Vaiko

Chennai, December 10: The Tamil Nadu Government has slapped yet another case against Opposition firebrand MDMK General Secretary Vaiko on charges of sedition.

Taking cognisance of a speech made by Mr Vaiko in a book release function in the city on July 15 this year, which the government felt was against the sovereignty of the nation, a fresh case has been registered against him at the Thousand LIghts Police Station.

Cases under Sec 124-A (Sedition) and 153 (speaking with provocation with intent to cause rioting) were registered against him.

Mr Vaiko had allegedly spoke against the country’s sovereignty while releasing a book “I accuse”, which was a compilation of letters written by him to the Prime Minister on the Sri Lankan Tamils issue.

This was the second sedition case booked against Mr Vaiko after the government charged with with a similar offence while addressing a meeting in the city in October last year. With the filing of a fresh case, police sources said Mr Vaiko was likely to be arrested.
