Terrorist involved Makkah Masjid blast nabbed in Lucknow

Lucknow, October 22: The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of Uttar Pradesh police has arrested a suspected terrorist who is supposed to have supplied arms and explosives for Makkah Masjid attack at Hyderabad and Malegaon blast in Mahashtra.

The man identified as Izahar Khan was arrested by the ATS under Hussaingang police station limits. He had allegedly supplied arms and explosives to Waqar Ahmed and Amzad Ali, the main accused in the terrorist attacks of Makkah Masjid and Malegaon.

According to Additional Director General of Police (ATS) Brij Lal the arrested man had supplied arms and explosives to the terrorist outfits and these were used for terrorist acts in different parts of the country.

UP ATS acted on a tip-off from their counterpart of Hyderabad and Ahmedabad to get hold of Izahar, who is the resident of Aminabad in Lucknow.

Mr Lal said the arrested accused was an accomplice of the main conspirator of the terrorist acts.
The arms supplied by Izahar were also used for an attack on the policemen of Gujarat.
Two days back, high powered explosives were recovered from near Chowk stadium in Lucknow.

The Malegaon seriel blasts occurred on September 8, 2006 in the Nashik district of Maharashtra in which 37 people were killed and over 125 injured. The blast took place in a Muslim cemetery, adjacent to a mosque during Friday prayers.

The Makkah Masjid bombing occurred on May 18, 2007 inside a Mosque in the old city area of Hyderabad located very close to Charminar. The blast was caused by a cellphone-triggered pipe bomb in which 14 people were killed including five in the police firing.
