Tension at OU as T-students stage rally

Hyderabad, November 08: Tension gripped Osmania University for a few hours on Monday as security forces fired teargas shells to disperse students who took out a rally.

The students took out the rally after hearing the news of the suicide of an Arts College student in Adilabad district. One Naikini Nagesh (26), a second year student of MA (Hindi) at the University College of Arts, committed suicide by jumping before a running train at the Mancherial railway station in the wee hours of Monday. He left a suicide note saying that he was ending his life for the sake of Telangana.

“We were taking out a march peacefully to pay him respects as he committed suicide for Telangana but the police without any provocation fired teargas shells at us,” said Pawan, a PG student at the Old PG hostel. Students hurled stones at cops near Osmania Uni-versity police station and electric sub-station which the police tried to disperse by firing tear-gas shells.

Osmania University inspector P. Ashok and some constables sustained injuries when students hurled stones at the cops at the electricity sub-station near the B.Ed college in the campus. Tension continued at Old PG hostel as students continued to attack cops till 7.30 pm after which normalcy returned. “We have registered cases against 60 to 70 students for rioting,” Mr Ashok.

A report from Adilabad said Nagesh, a native of Chinthaguda village in Kagaznagar mandal, told his family that he was going to college and committed suicide at the Mancherial railway station. His parents Shankar and Lachchavva are daily wagers. He left a suicide note saying that formation of Telangana was getting delayed due to the delaying tactics of the Central and state governments
