Tension at Kavita’s Rally

Hyderabad, Jan.26 (NSS): Tension prevailed for some time here on Thursday, when the Telangana Jagruti president Kalvakunta Kavita and activists of her organization tried to take out a rally from Ambedkar Statue at Tankbund to the Legislative Assembly protesting against demolition of Ambedkar’s statues across the State.

Though police refused permission, Kavita and her activists tried to take out the rally, creating tension. A severe scuffle took place between the police and the activists. Police had to finally arrest Kavita and her supporters and send them to the Nampally Police Station.

Kavita has demanded that the State government to set up Ambedkar Statue in the Assembly premises. She said that they would continue their fight till all the statues of Ambedkar were reerected.

She has warned that they would lay siege to the Assembly if necessary on the issue. She said though she has written a letter to the Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy on the issue earlier, the State government has failed to re-erect the statue so far. She also demanded the State government to take stern action against the culprits, who were demolishing Ambedkars statues in East Godavari district recently. (NSS)
