Ten members of a family burnt alive

Lucknow, March 12: Ten members of a family were burnt alive in a suspected reprisal attack at a village in Maharajganj district of Uttar Pradesh on Friday. The deceased included three women and five children. Family members of Digahi village gram pradhan, Dina Nath Singh, who was killed earlier in the day were alleged to be behind the retaliatory killings.

According to Special DG (Law and Order) Brij Lal the massacre was the outcome of a land dispute, pending in court and the two sides had clashed earlier. Mr. Lal told journalists here that the killing of Dina Nath Singh, allegedly by Ayodhya Dubey and his family members, provoked the massacre. Incensed at the pradhan’s murder, his supporters and family members torched the houses of Ayodhya Dubey and others. Senior police officials have rushed to the village and the situation is under control, Mr. Lal said.
