Telangana’s Sudarshan Reddy Made AP Advocate Gen

Hyderabad, January 18: Andhra Pradesh government today appointed senior lawyer A Sudarshan Reddy as the state Advocate General (AG), making him the first person from Telangana region to be appointed to the coveted post.

He replaces D V Sitarama Murthy who submitted his resignation on the advice of Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy.

Sudarshan Reddy is a college mate of Kiran Kumar Reddy from his Nizam College days. He served as Additional AG till now.

There has been a demand from Telangana separatists that Sitarama Murthy, who hails from Visakhapatnam in coastal Andhra, be replaced with a nominee from their region.

The previous Chief Minister K Rosaiah, however, did not heed but Kiran decided to replace Murthy at a time when the agitation for a separate state has reached a crucial stage.

Besides Sudarshan, the name of another senior lawyer and Kiran’s friend Nirup Reddy too was considered for the AG’s post. Ultimately, Sudarshan was chosen given his experience as Additional AG, official sources said.

Meanwhile, the government accepted the resignation of another Additional AG A Satya Prasad.
