Telangana Wakf Board to meet on 11th March

Hyderabad: The first meeting of the newly constituted Telangana State Wakf Board will be held on Saturday, 11th March at Hajj House, Nampally. Mr. Mohammed Saleem, Chairman of State Wakf Board will preside over the first meeting. The agenda of the meeting is being finalized. The decisions taken recently in the meeting of higher officials will be reviewed in the board meeting. It was reported that many important decisions have been taken which are likely to be revised in the board meeting.

Chairman would be delegated powers for making decisions. Mr. Saleem told that suggestions would be obtained from the members of the board for protection of wakf properties. He further told that he presumes that it is his responsibility to protect even an inch of wakf land. He hoped that he would be able to muster support from other members. District Collectors would be contacted to activate the present district coordination committees which have been functioning under their chairmanship.

Due to shortage of staff and also on account of no executive powers, Wakf Board staff is not in a position to protect wakf properties. If District Collectors, Revenue officials and other Departments extend their support to Wakf Board, it would be possible to protect wakf properties.

Mr. Saleem also told that very soon, Standing Counsels would also be commissioned for effective pleading of wakf cases. If need be, the number of wakf counsels could also be enhanced. Referring to the reforms in Wakf Board, Mr. Saleem told that anyone who approaches Wakf Board should not feel disappointed. He instructed the officials of Wakf Board not to be lethargic in disposing of complaints and representations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Syed Akbar Husain, Chairman-designate of Minorities Finance Corporation met Mr. Mohammed Saleem and congratulated him on his election. He was accompanied by Mr. Mohammed Azam Ali Qurram, TRS leader of Greater Hyderabad. He hoped that Mr. Saleem would take concrete steps for the protection of Wakf properties.
