Telangana: Violence mars TRS bandh

Hyderabad, December 24: Telangana region has witnessed furor as the Telangana Rashtriya Samiti (TRS) called complete shutdown of 48 hours in support of separate statehood, which has been nodded by the government, but anti-Telangana demand has put the issue on hold. The city is interacting chaos by the supporters by road blockades and violence in the region over the recent comment of Union home minister P. Chidambaram suggested the separate statehood issue is being put on the backburner.

Making the movement more vigorous the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhara Rao and the former state home minister K. Jana Reddy announced that a Joint Action Committee of all political parties, academics and student organisations are to assemble in Hyderabad on Thursday afternoon to work out on strategy.

Statement made by the Home Minister has caused all the development. The statement was just reverse to his earlier statement made on December 9 on Telangana. Rao defined it as a betrayal, and called 48 hour bandh and making repeated appeals to students and other youth to desist from violence. Both he and the actor turned politician Vijayashanti, the two TRS MPs, announced their resignations from the Lok Sabha, while all ten TRS MLAs announced their resignation for the state legislature.

Meanwhile, students have pelted stone on the buses in Hyderabad and several other places in Telangana in the run up to the 48 hours shutdown. Alleging that the Centre with its lateststatement “betrayed” on its previous announcement on initiating process for formation of Telangana, pro-Telangana supporters resorted to demonstrations and burning effigies at Warangal, Karimnagar, Medak, Nizamabad, Adilabad and Nalgonda districts of Telangana.
