Telangana stir: MLAs join indefinite fast

Hyderabad, December 28: The Telangana issue has generated a new political war in Andhra Pradesh, with Telangana MLAs now joining the indefinite fast along with the MPs. Following the latest development, the Centre, it seems has adopted a policy of wait and watch until the crucial report of the Srikrishna Committee is tabled on December 31.

Ten Congress MPs from Telangana began an indefinite fast in Hyderabad demanding immediate withdrawal of police cases against pro-Telangana students.

The MLAs, Malladi Vishnu and Jogi Ramesh, said the fasting MPs have violated party discipline and hence the high command should take action against them.

However, two Congress MLAs yesterday requested the party high command to take disciplinary action against the fasting MPs from Telangana.

Meanwhile, after yesterday’s hunger strike, the government has already withdrawn 135 cases against the protestors.

Students facing charges are largely from Osmania University, which turned into a political hotbed over demand for a new state of Telangana.
