The Telangana State Election Commission has issued a Notification for conduct of 3rd Ordinary elections to the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation on February 2 and directed the State government to make necessary arrangements for the same.
Therefore, the State Government directed the District Collectors of Hyderabad, Ranga Reddy and Medak to declare local holiday in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area on the polling date for all the government offices, Local bodies and other government institutions under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal limits. The District Collectors were authorized to declare local Holiday on the preceding day of polling i.e. on February 1 on the day of poll on February 2 and on the day of counting of votes on February 5 for all public buildings, educational institutions buildings and other buildings that are used for conduct of poll.
The District Collectors were also authorized to take action for declaration of local holiday for the Public and Private Undertakings / Firms located in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area to facilitate employees working in those organisations to exercise their franchise. The District Collectors were also authorized to declare the day of poll as a public holiday in the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area notified for poll under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881.
The Commissioner of Labour was directed to declare day of polling February 2 as paid holiday to shops and establishments located under GHMC area under AP Shops and Establishments Act, 1988 declaring the day of poll as a paid holiday to all the employees and workers employed in shops and establishments situated in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation area. The District Collectors were authorized to prohibit sale of liquor during 48 hours prior to the hours fixed for completion of poll and also on the day of counting of votes. (NSS)
