The Telangana police is partnering with the students community of Indian School of Business to devise process re engineering for delivery of quality, quick and efficient services to people in a transparent manner and also to redress the grievances of the over worked police personnel .
This was what how the Director General of Police Sri Anurag Sharma outlined the functioning of the Telangana police department in his key note address to a visiting group of students from the Indian School of Business at the DGP Office held today The ISB students were techies drawn from IIT-Kharagpur,Roorkie, NIT, Jalandhar,Warangal, Tiruchirapalli.CBIT,Osmania and JNTU .
The students from varied backgrounds with commendable credits in academic excellence and having a rich experience ranging between 2-15 years in the field will be studying the processes and environment in the Telangana police department and suggest ways to improve efficiency and make the system cost effective and target oriented.
The batch of 20 students of ISB split into four teams will study the various processes in the Head Office, pertaining to HR, Technology adaptation, budget management, administrative processes and procurement systems of the police department and submit workable solutions in select priority processes. The study is expected to go on from 3-6 months in which various deliverables will be put to test, while the study is on.
Earlier M. Ramesh, Superintendent of Police made a power point presentation on the functioning of various wings of Telangana police and highlighted their tasks to the ISB team. He also outlined the Police organisational chart and also the activities of all Institutions working in Police Dept viz: Law and Order machinery, CID, Forensic unit, Intelligence, Special Police Battalions, Railway Police, Police Academy, and Police training college, Legal procedures and the Home guards etc.,
He said the ISB students’ team would be guided by a Staff Officer to the DGP, as a mentor in each area of study so that their suggestions once complete could be easily adapted in police department and also promote faster familiarization and domain knowledge in the Dept.
The areas of concern posted to ISB team for study and suggestions were- to evolve an user friendly IT policy, addressing the grievances of the police force like correspondence and communications, pension processing, loan advances, contingency bills, procurement and inventory management and budgeting.
Addressing the students DGP Anurag Sharma profiled the tasks for the ISB students for their study .He highlighted the constraints faced by the police administrators and the limitations of finances and manpower etc in the face of challenges of prompt delivery of services to people and reduction of crime etc. “ The police have the twin challenges of prioritising their tasks, transparent and prompt decisions for optimum gains “ . he said.
The DGP said It is our endeavour to not only to attend to the core business of policing, but also partner with the people in enhancing the environment of protection, preservation of peace, and communal harmony and also change their perception about police. He also set the agenda for the ISB Students to study that could help the police dept in fine tuning the processes, create formats for correspondence, develop a tracking methodology to promote office automation in the department.
Addl. DGP Sudeep Laktakia said the 150 year old Indian police had transformed over years from each challenging task and hailed that the long journey between the ISB and the Telangana police should be more fruitful and go a long way in delivering better services to the people.
