Telangana Issue: TDP MLAs hopeful of meeting President, Prime Minister

Hyderabad, March 22: Telangana Telugu Desam Party legislators and MLCs are leaving for Delhi on Tuesday to meet Union Home Minister P. Chidambaram to press their demand for introduction of bill on Telangana in Parliament.

S. Venugopala Chary, party MLA, told reporters that they were hopeful of meeting the President and the Prime Minister too by staying back in Delhi. They had already sought an appointment with them.

To intensify agitation

He said they would intensify their agitation demanding Telangana beginning with a ‘bus yatra’ in all the districts from April 1.

Later, a delegation of the legislators that comprised besides Mr. Chary, Revuri Prakash Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, met Governor, E.S.L. Narasimhan at Raj Bhavan.

They said they had described the situation in Telangana and appealed to him to take a dispassionate look at the demand for separate statehood and send his report accordingly to the Centre.

They criticised TRS president K. Chandrasekhar Rao for targeting their leader N. Chandrababu Naidu “whenever he and his party faced the heat from the people of the region.” It was a tactic to divert the attention of the people of the region from the way his party MLAs had voted for a Congress candidate in the MLC elections.
