Chennai, January 02: The Centre’s decision to carve out a separate Telangana State from Andhra Pradesh was not taken in haste, Senior Congress leader and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram said today.
In a brief chat with newspersons after calling on Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi at his Gopalapuram residence, Mr Chidambaram said thedecision(to create a separate Telangana State) was not taken in haste. Enough thought was given to the issue.
He said a final decision on Telangana issue, which had triggered a wave of protests and resignations of MLAs and MPs in Andhra Pradesh, would be taken at the all-party meeting to be held in New Delhi on January five.
”A final decision will be taken at the all-party meet”, he added.
On PMK Founder S Ramadoss demand to bifurcate Tamil Nadu following the Centre’s nod for a separate Telangana, the Union Home Minister described it as “absurd” and said such things should be nipped in the bid.
Asked about terror threats to India, Mr Chidambaram said such threats exist all over the world.
Describing his meeting with Mr Karunanidhi, he said he called on the DMK President to greet him on the occasion of New Year.
