Hyderabad, March 20: For the organisers, it was a case of relief paving way for tension again. They were initially were pleased with the reported developments suggesting that there will be a two-month break in the agitation for separate Telangana till May. The organisers promptly swung into the preparatory mode for the seven matches at Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Uppal.
However, the officials are now keeping their fingers crossed. For, within a couple of days, it seems the situation is back to square one, with some other prominent members of JAC reportedly disassociating themselves from those who wanted a break in the agitation.
“Right now, there are no clear instructions for us from our bosses to talk to the pro-Telangana leaders. And, there are no plans either as of now in this regard,” says a senior official of Deccan Chargers. “We are going ahead with the belief that the matches will be in Hyderabad,” he insists.
For the cricket crazy fans of Hyderabad, who were sulking in agony at missing out World Cup matches (for different reasons), the agonising wait to see the big guns in IPL at least continues.
It is an open secret that the alternative plans of Cuttack (which comes under the purview of Deccan Chargers catchment area) and Nagpur are already being thought off as was the case in the last edition.
“Yes, it will be good if the matches are played here. But, again it all depends on the given circumstances. We still hope there will be no trouble,” says BCCI vice-president Shivlal Yadav.
Though HCA role is confined only to handing over the venue for IPL matches, it is expected to get a financial grant of Rs. 8 to 10 crore from the Board as its share like all the other affiliated units of BCCI.
