Kolkata, June 26: A 13-year old girl was on Friday stabbed to death by a youth after she resisted an attempt to rape in Chanchol village in Malda district. The accused youth was lynched by the angry villagers after the incident.
According to a senior police official, Sabina Khatun (13), a class VII student, was allegedly stabbed to death by Nakimuddin (23), a daily-wages earner in the area. Sabina was teased every day by Nakimuddin while she used to be on her way to school.
Today, when Sabina was going to school, Nakimuddin, accompanied by his 4-5 friends, started teasing her. As she protested, the youths forcibly dragged the girl to a nearby jute field and allegedly tried to rape her. Spurned by Sabina’s strong resistance, Nakimuddin started stabbing her indiscriminately. The injured minor was rushed by locals to a hospital where she succumbed to her injuries.
Malda police chief Bhuban Chandra Mandal said, “ Nakimuddin had been trying unsuccessfully to establish a relationship with the girl.”Both of them were residents of Kashimbazar village, he said.
“Hearing the cries of the girl, the locals came rushing to the place of crime. As Nakimuddin tried to flee, they chased him and beat him up severely. Both the girl and the youth were later declared dead,” said Mandal.
