Technical snags force more units at NTTPS to halt

Vijayawada, October 06: Even as experts and officials were working overtime to restore power generation in Units 4 and 7, a technical snarl forced officials of the Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) to halt power generation at Units 1, 2 and 6 on Wednesday.

Today’s technical snarls have come at the worst possible time since Units 4 and 7 have been shut down earlier, due to a technical snag and an explosion in a transformer.

Officials say that 1330 MW of power generation has now been affected due to the shutting down of the five units.

According to sources, following the huge disruption in the power generation, the government has deputed an expert officials’ team from the Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited to rectify the technical problems.

The officials are yet to ascertain the reasons for halting power generation in the Units 1 and 2 on Wednesday. The power generation halted in 6th unit to take up annual repair works, the sources stated.

Earlier, power generation at the 7th unit of the station was affected after an ‘explosion’ in a transformer.

The ‘explosion’ has completely halted the operations in the unit which generates 500 MW power.

The power generation was affected in the 4th unit due to a technical problem on Monday.

However, the officials are making all efforts to restore power generation in all the units, which are affected due to technical snag.
