TDP urges DGP to hand over case to CID

Hyderabad, October 23: Alleging that the Krishna district police has falsely implicated the brother of its legislator, Sreeram Rajagopal, in the recent murder of a Congress leader at Nawabpet, the TDP today urged Director General of Police to hand over the case to the CID or any other investigation agency for a fair probe.

A delegation of TDP leaders met DGP R R Girish Kumar in his chambers today and submitted a memorandum.

Sreeram Dhanunjay, the brother of Jaggayyapet legislator Sreeram Rajagopal also known as Sreemram Tataiah, has been named as the accused in the murder of Congress activist, G Veeraiah, in a temple at Nawabpet village in Krishna district on October 19.

A case has been registered by the police in which it was stated that the assailants, numbering 11, came in a Scorpio with registration number AP 16 BD 5566, belonging to Dhanunjay.

The TDP leaders said that Dhanunjay’s relative Krishna Mohan went to Tirupati in the same Scorpio on October 18. “A way bill was issued against the Scorpio at the Alipiri toll gate on October 18 night at 8.50 p.m and also at a toll gate in Khaja village of Guntur district the next day while the family was returning,’’ the delegation said.

“How can the way bills be issued against the Scorpio at Tirupati and Guntur when the Krishna district police is claiming that it was used for the murder at Nawabpet?’’ they questioned While the media reported that three motorcycle-borne persons hacked Veeraiah to death, police are claiming that 11 persons came in the Scorpio and killed the leader, the TDP leaders pointed out.

Claiming that the Jaggayyapet circle inspector Sambasiva Rao is a relative of former Congress MLA S Udaya Bhanu, the TDP leaders alleged that the police are implicating the TDP leader.

“We want the case to be transferred to CID,’’ they urged the DGP.

Speaking to reporters later, the TDP leaders said that the DGP has assured to look into the issue.
