TDP men, T activists come close to blows

Hyderabad, March 25: Telangana protagonists continue to `haunt’ TDP Chief N Chandrababu Naidu after a group of slogan-shouting pro-Telangana leaders tried to corner the TDP Chief at the Cherlapally Central Prison Wednesday

when he went to meet the party leaders who were lodged there after being arrested for the alleged attack on Telangana advocates a few days ago.

Naidu visited the prison to console party corporators Singireddy Srinivas Reddy, Bhanu Prasad and former corporator Dinesh Yadav who were arrested for attacking a group of Telangana advocates at Indira Park on March 6 when the latter went there demanding that Naidu spell out his stand on Telangana.

Coming to know of Naidu’s visit, pro-Telangana activists reached there and started raising slogans in support of statehood to Telangana and also against the TDP chief. They reiterated their demand that Naidu spell out his stand on Telangana and tried to block his convoy.

Mild tension prevailed as TDP activists, who also gathered in large numbers, entered into argument with the Telangana activists and raised counter- slogans in support of Naidu. As the two groups were about to clash, police intervened and dispersed the agitators.

“We have taken 16 persons into preventive custody,’’ Kushaiguda police inspector A Muthyam Reddy said. They were later let off.
