Take up Harithaharam, Srihari tell education officials

Ahead of the launch of the flagship program of Harithaharam on July 3, Deputy Chief Minister Kadiam Srihari today directed vice chancellors of various universities and officials of education department to conduct massive plantation of saplings program in their campuses and premises. During a high level review meeting with them at Secretariat here, the deputy chief minister asked them to take up on war-footing the project to expand green cover in the state.
The flagship Harithaharam – a “brainchild” of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao is being considered as the noted to extend green cover in and outside of the forests in Telangana State, Srihari said. This project will help increase green cover to about 33 per cent from 25.16 per cent in the state, according to information.
With a plan to plant 230 crore saplings across the state in four years the government aims to distribute 40 lakhs of saplings to every Assembly constituency including 10 lakhs of saplings to every mandal and adequate number to the educational institutions he said. Taking this opportunity, the vice chancellors and top officials should focus on the greenery project, the deputy chief minister said. The State Government will offer complete cooperation for the greenery project to attract more rains and check the menace of pollution he added. (NSS)
