‘Take opinion of Seema-Andhra leaders’

Hyderabad, September 18: United Andhra Pradesh Congress MLAs and MLCs Forum has urged the government to take the opinion of the people of all regions before taking a decision on the demand of Telangana advocates.

Leaders of the forum Sailajanath (chief whip), A Vivekananda Reddy, YS Vivekananda Reddy, M Vishnu met chief minister K Rosaiah, home minister P Sabitha Reddy and information and public relations minister J Geetha Reddy here today and submitted a memorandum to this effect.

Speaking to reporters, Sailajanath and Vivekananda Reddy said that the lawyers’ demand was unjust as the quota that they are demanding cannot be conceded since there was no such provision anywhere.

“There was no such reference in the sixpoint formula or the presidential order or the gentlemen agreement,” they said and wanted the government not to take any policy decision without consulting representatives from Andhra region as well.

Vivekananda Reddy said that even a judge of the High Court was feeling insecure. He demanded that persons like Kodandaram who were provoking the students and advocates should be taken to task. Vivekananda Reddy said that the people of other regions living in Hyderabad were being treated as migrants.

Referring to the intimidation of Andhras by Telangana protagonists, the forum leaders said they had taken the issue to the notice of the home minister. Sailajanath said that the group1 aspirants were being attacked, even minister Silpa Mohan Reddy was not spared. This had created fear and insecurity among the people, the chief whip said. He said that he had requested her to ensure safety and security till the report of Srikrishna Committee is submitted.

Earlier in the day the members of the forum met at the Assembly committee hall today and discussed the ongoing strike by Telangana advocates. They have decided to act ‘aggressively’ against the Telangana activists, by effectively countering their activities and statements.

Sailajanath further said that the forum members would also meet the Congress high command and appraise her of Telangana Congress leaders’ activities which were against the interests of party and the government.

The Centre had constituted the Srikrishna Committee to look into the state’s bifurcation issue and there was a need for everyone to cooperate, he said.
