Suspense Lingers Over Agenda of Cong Meeting

Hyderabad, November 24: Suspense continued on the agenda of the emergency Congress Legislature Party (CLP) meeting called in Andhra Pradesh this evening against the backdrop of the airing of criticism of party chief Sonia Gandhi by a TV channel owned by dissident MP Y S Jaganmohan Reddy.

There is no official word on the agenda of the sudden meeting and all that the Congress leaders are saying is that the meeting is likely to discuss “party affairs”.

“We discussed the arrangements to be made for the CLP meeting. Union Minister and incharge of party affairs in the state Veerappa Moily would speak to the legislators,” Congress Chief Whip M Bhatti Vikramarka told reporters after a meeting with Chief Minister K Rosaiah at his residence this morning.

Political observers indicate two possibilities about the agenda of the meeting. One, the CLP would condemn the critical stories against Sonia Gandhi telecast on the Sakshi news channel of Jagan. Two, the meeting may pass resolution expressing faith in the leadership of Rosaiah.

The decision to hold the meeting of CLP came hours after Rosaiah met the top brass of the party, including Sonia Gandhi’s political secretary Ahmed Patel and Defence Minister A K Antony, in New Delhi yesterday.

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Konda Surekha, a supporter of Jagan, today said that she would resist if any attempts are made during the meeting to attack the the Kadapa MP.

She was referring to several senior party leaders who have been critical of Jagan ever since he went ahead with his ‘Odarpu yatra’ despite the high command’s reservations.

Surekha, however, said she would toe the party line at the meeting. The CLP meeting would be held at 6.30 pm.
