Washington DC [USA]: Lifetime, American TV channel, is set to air a follow-up to the documentary series ‘Surviving R. Kelly’, which is about sexual abuse allegations levelled against rapper R. Kelly, by several women.
Journalist Soledad O’Brien will host the follow up ‘Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact’, a two-hour special, scheduled to air on May 4, reported Variety.
The follow-up is expected to analyse the effects of the docu-series on how it has impacted the culture, globally and it will also look into how it raised the controversy around sexual violence. The show will also throw some light on the aspect of being a survivor.
‘Surviving R. Kelly: The Impact’ has footages from the previous docu-series, legal experts, interviews with journalists, even psychologists who discuss the proceeding going on around R. Kelly.
After the release of ‘Surviving R. Kelly’ in January 2019, social media witnessed the emergence of hashtags like #MuteRKelly and instigated a surge of activism. Many activists even called for the boycott of the rapper.
A slew of women and their families had accused the rapper of sexually abusing them.
R. Kelly was indicted on 10 felony counts by the Cook County attorney’s office in February.
Peacock Productions is producing the follow-up and Elizabeth Waller is executive producing the show.
