Student held for selling outdated Turkey currency in city

On Friday, sleuths of Central Zone Task Force nabbed one person near Maithrivanam complex at Ameerpet while he was trying to sell outdated Turkey currency to gullible people and seized 89 currency notes of Rs 5 lakh denomination and two Cell phones from his possession.  

           

Accused was identified as Nimmakayala Durga Prasad Reddy alias Prasad, 19, a student of BBM at Vasista Degree College, Railway Koduru, YSR District Kadapa. On June 17, he went to Bengaluru and and purchased 89 notes of Turkey currency Lirasi in the denomination of Rs 5 lakh each totaling Rs 4.45 crore. He returned to Hyderabad the next day and contacted various foreign currency exchangers and came to know that the Turkey currency which he brought was demonetized and invalid.

The accused planned to sell the unused Turkey currency in Hyderabad to innocent persons for making a profit. As planned, on Friday evening, he was trying to sell outdated Turkey currency (LIRASI). However, the sleuths laid a trap and nabbed the accused near Maitrivanam complex and seized 89 notes of outdated Turkey currency from his possession.

            The accused and the seized material were handed over to the SR Nagar SHO for further investigation. The accused was arrested under the supervision of B. Limba Reddy, DCP, Commissioner’s Task Force by B. Janaiah, Inspector, Mohd Waheeduddin, Inspector, SR Nagar PS, sub-inspectors K. Vinod Kumar, B. Kantha Reddy and staff of Central Zone Team. (NSS)
