Soren will fight assembly bypoll: BJP

Ranchi, April 18: The Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) Saturday dismissed speculation that its alliance partners were looking for a successor to Jharkhand Chief Minister Shibu Soren, who has a little over two months left to get himself elected to the state assembly.

“Soren will fight the assembly bypoll to get elected to the state assembly. We are aware of the constitutional obligations and even Soren understands such constitutional obligations,” BJP state president and Deputy Chief Minister Raghbar Das told reporters here.

The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) chief, who became chief minister for the third time Dec 30 last year, has to become a member of the state assembly – as constitutionally required – within six months of the formation of the government. At present Soren is a Lok sabha MP from Dumka.

When it was pointed out that no legislator was willing to vacate an assembly seat for Soren, Das said: “Wait for some time.”

Asked if the alliance partners were looking for a successor to Soren, he said “these are only speculations by the media. The Soren government will remain in power for full term”.
