New Delhi, March 05: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and the Congress President Sonia Gandhi are divided in their opinions over the issue of RTI amendment.
As per the recent reports, the proposed amendments of the RTI Act (RTI) have created a rift between the Prime Minister and UPA chairperson.
While Manmohan Singh voices in favour of excluding the office of the Chief Justice of India (CJI) from coming under the realm of the RTI Act, Sonia Gandhi has opposed any such amendments in the Act.
As per the amendments proposed by the Prime Minister in the RTI Act, the office of the CJI will be kept out of purview of this Act.
Moreover, Manmohan Singh has written a letter to Sonia agreeing that changes are required in the RTI Act to look into the concerns of the judiciary. Prime Minister also emphasized on the fact that CJI office should be kept out of its purview in order to secure confidential information in matters pertaining to the appointment of judges.
