Hyderabad: The husband of the slain Chittoor Mayor who was seriously injured in an attack by at least six persons, has succumbed to his injuries, even as the police continued a vigorous search to trace the suspects.
K Mohan, who was critically injured in yesterday’s attack, succumbed to his injuries last night at Christian Medical College Hospital at Vellore in Tamil Nadu, where he was admitted, a police officer said today.
Meanwhile, police have stepped up the manhunt to nab the prime accused, Chandrasekhar alias Chintoo who is Mohan’s nephew, and other assailants.
Chittoor Mayor Katari Anuradha was shot and stabbed to death by at least six assailants inside her chamber at the Chittoor Municipal Corporation and Mohan, a TDP leader, was also seriously injured in the attack by them.
“Mohan’s body was brought to Chittoor from VelloreĀ after post-mortem. Earlier, Mohan was operated upon in Vellore hospital, but without success,” the police officer said.
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu today visited Chittoor city and paid last respects to the departed leaders. He also visited the crime scene.
“As per the preliminary information, the attack was carried out following a family dispute…A financial angle has also come to light and Mohan’s nephew Chandrasekhar alias Chintoo has emerged as the prime suspect,” police had yesterday said.
Police said the situation in Chittoor, where people voluntarily closed shops and business establishments today, was under control and there were no untoward incidents.
