SIT submits interim report on the progress made in Ishrat case

Ahmedabad, April 06: The Special Investigation Team, appointed by the Gujarat High Court, on Tuesday submitted its interim report on the progress made in the case of alleged fake encounter killing of Ishrat Jahan, said sources close to the SIT.

The report, submitted in a sealed cover before the court registry, will be placed before a Bench of Justices Jayant Patel and Abhilasha Kumari on April 8. A hearing is scheduled for that day.

The report, it is believed, contains crucial details of the encounter by the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad with Ishrat Jahan, Pranesh Pillai alias Javed Sheikh and two others in June 2004, the sources said. The SIT recently raided the Forensic Science Laboratory here and procured certain evidence, and recorded the statement of the driver of former Deputy Superintendent of Police, Narendra Amin, now in jail custody in the Sohrabuddin fake encounter case.
