Johannesburg, Sept.30 : World number three Maria Sharapova has been ruled out of next week’s China Open with a left forearm injury sustained during the Wuhan Open.
Confirming the news, the 28-year-old Russian said that she feels extremely disappointed to have withdrawn from the event and missing her chance to defend the title,Sport24 reported.
Sharapova, who has been struggling with injury since her Wimbledon semi-final defeat against Serena Williams, was hoping to make her return at the Wuhan Open.
But she was forced to retire with new left forearm injury after playing just three-sets against unseeded Barbora Strycova.
It is still doubtful whether Sharapova will play in WTA finals at Singapore, which is scheduled to take place from October 23. (ANI)
