Lucknow, October 14: An unpleasant situation arose here today in the news conference of Shahi Imam of Jama Masjid Maulana Ahmed Bukhari when irritated by a question, he along with his supporters beat up a journalist.
Maulana Bukhari lost his temper when Mohammad Wahid Chisti, a reporter of an Urdu daily, asked a question with regards to Ayodhya, which left the former fumed and he slapped the reporter.
The supporters of the Shahi Imam also joined him followed by some unprecendented unruly scenes at the venue.
Other reporters, however, intervened to pacify the Imam and separated him from the reporter, who looked in a state of shock after the incident.
When the reporter asked a question about ownership of Ayodhya land, a visibly irked Shahi Imam sought to shout him down, but when the mediapersons persisted with the question, he along with his supporters jumped into the crowd and slapped the reporter.
