New Delhi: Several inmates of northwest Delhi’s Rohini district jail were injured in a brawl among them, police said today.
Seventeen inmates sustained minor injuries in the brawl last night during which the inmates attacked each another with sharp-edged weapons, sticks and rods.
A case of rioting, causing hurt with dangerous weapons and other offences has been registered, said a senior police officer here.
Jail sources said two inmates – Nitin and Shiva – were found roaming around their barracks in the jail number six, where they were lodged for one year in connection with a double murder case, around 8 PM.
When the duo were locked up back into their cell by warders using “mild force”, that allegedly instigated other inmates and led to a free-for-all, following which several inmates were injured, they said.
Later, jail staff brought the situation under control and sent the injured persons to hospital.
Police was informed about the incident around midnight following which cops from the Samaipur Badli police station reached the jail.
