Hyderabad, August 08: Health officials on Saturday confirmed that seven of the 17 nursing students admitted to Gandhi Hospital were afflicted with swine flu.
The blood samples were sent to the Erragadda Chest Hospital after the students showed symptoms of the dreaded disease on August 5.
Gandhi Hospital doctors confirmed that news that seven nursing students had indeed tested positive for the infection on receiving the reports.
Three of the nursing students are stated to be in a serious condition.
Meanwhile, a woman succumbed to the dreaded disease while she was being shifted from Kurnool for treatment. The woman had been suffering from high fever and doctors had advised treatment for her in Hyderabad after her health deteriorated.
The death toll due to the disease has now reached 22, of the 218 positive cases in the state since January this year.
With the tests confirming the results of the seven nursing students, the number of persons being afflicted with the disease on Saturday reached 16, of the 39 persons who were screened.
