Set up Steel Plant at Bayyaram: KTR urges Centre

Hyderabad: IT and Mining Minister KT Rama Rao today urged the Union Mining Secretary Arun Kumar to take immediate action on the pending demand for setting up a Steel Plant at Bayyaram. In a meeting with Arun Kumar , KTR expressed displeasure at the Centre for inordinate delay in taking a decision. He discussed on the need for the steel plant that will provide jobs to the people. Telangana was meted out injustice for 60 years in all sectors during Andhra rule and the Centre has extended more help to Andhra Pradesh after bifurcation and ignored the demands and issues of the new state he deplored. The Centre did not address the issues of bifurcation Act to full extent he said.

Despite repeated meetings with Union Ministers and letters from the state, Bayyaram issue is still pending with the Centre the Mining minister informed to the secretary. He also expressed concern on the delay being done by the centre on the crucial issue.

Despite lack of mineral resources the Centre shifted minerals to Vizag and is not ready to set up a plant in Bayyaram which is abundant with mineral resources he said. Further he asked the mining secretary to take initiative for an action plan to launch the project as it will provide jobs to people in Khammam.

During another meeting with Beedi workers Managements, KTR suggested them to exert pressure on the Centre to reduce GST which is burden on the workers involved. We have appealed to the Centre repeatedly and will rake up the issue in next round of meeting on GST to be held in Hyderabad he said. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has written letters to the Centre and will reduce the tax if the beedi managements put more pressure in coordination with government and political parties.   (NSS)
