‘Set up local committees to tackle pollution’

Hyderabad, February 28: Mata Amritanandamayi Devi (Amma), who reached the city on Sunday called upon her devotees to form committees to work for preventing pollution in the country.

India is advancing scientifically and economically and is poised to be the third largest power in the world by 2025, but we are still taking baby steps in terms of cleanliness, she said.

Amma spoke to thousands of people who flocked to see her at the math in Secunderabad and stirred their souls with bhajans and satsangs here today.

“Love is the foundation of a happy life. Knowingly or unknowingly, we forget this truth. Though globalisation has increased connectivity and reduced the world to a small village, we are still suffering. We have failed to pay enough attention to the uniting of the inner aspects of our selves, that is connecting our hearts and minds,” she preached.

She said that she wanted devotees to form committees to take up the responsibility for cleaning their locality with approximately one committee in every two kilometer distance. “A chain of such committees could really bring about a massive transformation. These committees should ensure that their localities are kept clean and green as well as create awareness among people not to throw trash on the roadside or spit in public places,” she added.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister for Textiles and Handlooms P Shanker Rao said that this is the moment to awaken love and compassion within us and to pray with our hearts and work with our hands. Former minister Palvai Govardhan Reddy said that the state government is planning to allocate land to the Mata Amritanandamayi Math to set up a medical college and hospital at Hayathnagar in the city.

Earlier, Amma distributed educational scholarships to children of poor farmers under the Vidyamritam scheme. R V Chandravadan, project director of APSACS released a book ‘Amritasmrithulu’ and Palvai Govardhan Reddy released a ‘Amrita Prabha-2011’.
