Section 144 imposed in Aligarh before Rahul’s arrival

Lucknow, July 06: The Aligarh district administration, which has already given permission for Congress Mahapanchayat at the Exhibition ground on July 9, today promulgated ban orders under section 144 before arrival of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi-led Kisan Sandesh Padyatra.

The padyatra, which began yesterday, is slated to reach
Tappal in Aligarh by this evening. Senior Aligarh district officials including the Additional District Magistrate(ADM) along with large contingent of policemen are waiting at the borders of the district for the arrival of Rahul Gandhi at Tappal.

Official sources here said that the prohibitory orders have been promulgated to control the crowd and the security of the Congress leaders.

After his night stay at house of a former pradhan Kalicharan Sharma in Rampurbangar village, Rahul Gandhi resumed his padyatra this morning at 0620 hrs.

The padyatra visited Sabauta Jafarabad and Alawalpur where Mr Gandhi held chaupal with the villagers and heard their grievances.

Mr Gandhi also addressing the gathering assured them that the Central government was committed to work for the people and very soon a new pro-farmer land acquisition Bill would be tabled in Parliament.

The Congress leader was agitated over the harassment of the
farmers by the UP government and assured them that Congress was with them.” Opening fire on the farmers and grabbing their land by the UP government is unfortunate and it cannot be tolerated,” he said.
