Scientists: 5.6-magnitude quake strikes Indonesia

Jakarta, August 06: A moderate 5.6-magnitude earthquake struck the Indonesian province of Maluku on Friday, the local Meteorological and Geophysics agency said, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The quake struck at 3:58 pm (4:58pm local time), 317 kilometres northwest of Saumlaki at a depth of 10 kilometres, according to the agency.

Indonesia sits on the Pacific “ring of fire”, where the meeting of continental plates causes high volcanic and seismic activity.
