Imphal, December 05: A private school building was set afire by some miscreants in Imphal East district but locals managed to save it in time, police said today.
Some unidentified persons set ablaze Lamlai Higher Secondary School at Pungdongbam area, about 25 km from here, last night, in which a classroom in the building was damaged.
In the past three weeks, four school buildings were torched in Thoubal district.
Three students’ organisations — the All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU), Manipur Students’ Federation (MSF) and Kangleipak Students’ Association (KSA) — had called for boycott of all classes from September 9 and asked educational institutions not to open schools.
The students’ bodies have been boycotting classes to support the demand of the major social organisation Apunba Lup which has been agitating against killing of a youth by police commandos in fake encounter on July 23.
