New Delhi, May 31: The Supreme Court today took serious note of caste violence in Haryana and sought an explanation from the Hooda government regarding the lack of action taken against the perpetrators of atrocities against dalits in village Mirchpur in district Narnul, Haryana.
Forty houses of dalits were allegedly set on fire by Jats in the area on May 21, when they were protesting against the killing of a dalit woman by setting her afire.
A vacation bench comprising Justices G S Singhvi and C K Prasad directed the Deputy Commissioner of the area to be personally present in the court on June 2 to explain what action has been taken against the culprits by the state government till date.
The apex court also issued notices to the State of Haryana on a PIL alleging that the state government was shielding the culprits and till date no action has been taken against any of them.
