Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Monday said that the freedom fighter Veer Savarkar was ignored by the previous governments because he was a staunch follower of ‘Hindu Rashtra’ ideology.
“ Veer Savarkar ka jo uchit samman hona chahiye tha wo previous government ne nhi kia kyunki unki ideology Hindurashtra ki thi (Savarkar was ignored by the previous governments because his ideology was that of a ‘Hindu Rashtra’,” Raut told ANI.
“Now that our government (NDA) is in power , he should be given the highest civilian honour,” he added.
He further said that the event to honour Savarkar should be held at Cellular jail in Andaman Islands where he was kept for many years.
Raut has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to confer Bharat Ratna to Savarkar.
In a letter sent to Prime Minister Modi, Raut described Savarkar as a ‘staunch supporter of Hindu nation’ and accused the previous governments of ignoring the freedom fighter. (ANI)
