A Saudi junior diplomat was gunned down near his house in Gulshan in capital Dhaka early, Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Al Bussairy has confirmed.
“One of our diplomatic staff was killed near his house in Gulshan this morning. This is sad,” the Ambassador told UNI over phone yesterday.
Khalf al Ali, 45, the Second Secretary at the Saudi Embassy, was killed while returning to his house. The motive of the killing could not be ascertained immediately.
“We hope the government will catch the killers,” Ambassador Bussairy said.Intelligence sources said police found the bullet-ridden body of Ali early this morning. He was taken to United Hospital where he succumbed to bullet wounds at 0455 hrs local time.
Police said Ali suffered a single bullet in his left chest while he was jogging.Witnesses said they saw a white car speedily passed away by the spot after sound of a gun fire.
This is the first time a foreign diplomat has been murdered in Bangladesh.
