Saina creates history

New Delhi, June 27: Indian badminton ace Saina Nehwal created history on Sunday as she beat Japan’s Sayaka Sato 21-19 13-21 21-11 to win the Indonesian Open Super series title.

This is Saina’s third straight win in three weeks. She was the defending champion at this event which she won last year as well.

Saina who recently jumped to her career best ranking of World No 3, came into this event on the back of successive wins in the India Open Grand Prix and the Singapore Open Super series title.

Saina’s rise to badminton’s elite started from the same place last year when she became the first Indian shuttler to win a Super series event here in Indonesia.

The defending champion has now consolidated her place among the sport’s best by winning her third Super series title.

Earlier, Saina defeated Japan’s Eriko Hirose 21-9 21-10 to storm into the final of the tournament. Her opponent Sayaka Sato ended the superb run of local qualifier Ana Rovita with a 21-19 21-14 win in the other semifinal.
