Sadhvi Pragya writes to President, alleges torture in jail

Claiming innocence Sadhvi Pragya Thakur, accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast, has urged President Pratibha Devisingh Patil to take action against Mumbai ATS officials for alleged torture in jail.

Sadhvi Pragya, lodged in a Mumbai jail, has recently written a letter to the President and also urged to direct the National Human Rights Commission to look into the matter.

In her 15-page letter, Sadhvi Pragya said she has been lodged in a Mumbai jail in connection with the Malegaon bomb blasts. ATS officials have been allegedely framing her in the case and torturing her mentally and physically.

”I have never supported violence and never took the path of violence. But I have only been framed in Malegaon case on the basis of the two wheeler which was used in the blast. I have sold that vehicle to Sunil Joshi of Madhya Pradesh in 2004 itself. I also signed the selling papers in the RTO,” she claimed.

She alleged that the police called her on October 7, 2008 and despite refuting any connection with the blast she was taken to Mumbai alongwith one of her associates where she was allegedly tortured mentally and physically.

Sadhvi Pragya had named several ATS officials who allegedely used to beat her mercilessly day and night and she even had to be admitted to a hospital.

She alleged that the ATS officials had also used abusive language against her.

”ATS also got polygraph, brain mapping and three narco tests done on me without my consent,” she added.

The Sadhvi said after the alleged torture by the ATS, she has realised why some people commit suicide.

”But I will not take any such step because then I will be labelled as guilty. I am not a weak woman,” Sadhvi Pragya said.

She is an accused in the September 2008 blast that killed six people and injured several in Malegaon.

She has been in custody of the ATS since October 2008, and is facing charges under Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act(MCOCA).
