Rumours of Pakistan coup amidst calls for Zardari to go

Islamabad, December 20: There is strong buzz in political and diplomatic circles about a possible Pakistan coup as demands are growing for the resignation of Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari.

Although the presidential spokesperson Farhatullah Babar denied any chance of coup in the country but some developments in the country clearly point that things are not normal.

Earlier in the day, the decision to bar the Pakistan defense minister from leaving the country sparked rumours of an impending Pakistan coup. The name of the minister features in the list of 248 people that have been barred from leaving the country as per a court decision, which struck down the amnesty to President Asif Ali Zardari.

There is a growing demand for the resignation of Zardari after the court decision and if he tries to play with the constitution again, it is likely to result in some action from the armed forces and that could also be a coup.

Opposition leader Nawaz Sharif has called for the resignation of Zardari on moral grounds.
