RSP registered as political party in Telangana

The Telangana State Election Commission has registered the “Revolutionary Socialist Party” as a political party and reserved the symbol “Spade and Stoker” for allotment to the candidates set up by the party in the local body elections held on party basis in the State.

Earlier, general secretary of the Revolutionary Socialist Party had applied for registration of his political party under the Registration of Political Parties and Allotment of Symbols Order 2001 with the State Election Commission on December 12, 2015. But the party was already recognized as a State party in Kerala and West Bengal States and was allotted “Spade and Stoker” symbol by the Election Commission of India as per provisions of the Election Symbols (Registration & Allotment) Order, 1968. However, one P Sudhakar Rao of Indra Nagar, Golconda filed an objection contending that the Revolutionary Social Party belongs to Kerala and West Bengal and other State parties should not be registered in Telangana State.

As there was a provision in the Symbols Order that State parties of other States can get registered with the State Election Commission, the objection raised by P Sudhakar Rao was held untenable and registered the RSP accordingly. (NSS)
