Hyderabad, October 13: Labour Minister Ramireddy Venkat Reddy today handed over a cheque for Rs 5 crore to Chief Minister K Rosaiah as conntribution to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund for flood relief operations.
The donation was from the Labour Construction Workers Welfare Fund.
The minister said that flood-affected construction workers would be given Rs 5,000 each as a one-time allowance to meet their immediate needs.
S Gopal, chairman of AP Construction Workers Welfare Board, and D Srinivasulu, commissioner for labour, were present.
Earlier, Venkat Reddy had flagged off two trucks of relief material to Mahaboobnagar district and handed over a cheque for Rs 52.77 lakh to the chief minister on behalf of the co-operation department.
Meanwhile, Transport Minister S Vijayaramaraju held a meeting with the representatives of various unions of lorry owners, private buses and other transport vehicles.
He urged them to generously donate cash and support the government’s relief measures for flood victims.
Instead of relief material, the officials have decided to collect only cash and donate the same to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
The representatives of transport vehicle unions decided to undertake a two-week drive to collect donations and hand over the same to the chief minister on October 27.
