Washington, April 28: Coverage of the royal wedding may be one of the hottest topics in the media at the moment, but sources in the US are out-publishing those in the UK, according to a study by the Nielsen Company.
The marketing insights company analyzed “online buzz” in the United States, the United Kingdom and Australia after the couple announced their intention to marry in November 2010.
The study found that while in the UK news of the royal wedding generated the biggest social media buzz – mentions on outlets such as message boards, blogs and Facebook – the USA had a higher share of news coverage by traditional sources, such as online newspapers and magazines.
Overall Australia devoted the lowest share of news coverage to the royal wedding, peaking at around 0.1 percent shortly after the engagement was announced.
The survey, released April 25, found that the share of royal wedding coverage in the US peaked at 0.3 percent following the engagement while at the same period coverage in the UK was just below 0.2 percent.
In the past month coverage of the royal wedding in the US has again increased, reaching 0.25 percent in early April. Over the same period the share of coverage of the royal wedding in the UK has remained stagnant at around 0.09 percent.
The royal wedding on April 29 can be followed online via the official Twitter and Facebook channels of the British Monarchy. The event will also be streamed live on YouTube, where the video will remain after the event.
