Robbery in retired bank manager’s house

Hyderabd, June 11: Armed robbers looted Rs 2 lakh cash and 25 tolas of gold jewellery from a family at Hayathnagar on Wednesday morning.

Two of the four robbers entered the house of a retired cooperative bank manager, Sambasiva Rao at Lakshma Reddy Colony of Hayathnagar on Wednesday morning in the guise of paying advance amount for a room in his house they had agreed to take on rent. Sambasiva Rao, 70, and his wife Vijaya Vani, 60, were present in the house at that time.

While two of them entered Rao’s house, other two were waiting outside. One of the two persons who entered the house suddenly pointed a gun at the couple and told them to hand over all valuables in the house,” Hayathnagar Inspector of police N Narasimha Reddy said.

Scared, Vijayavani immediately handed over all the gold jewellery she was wearing. The robbers then made the old couple open the iron safe in their bedroom and took away some more gold and Rs 2 lakh cash.

According to police, in all 25 tolas of gold and Rs 2 lakh cash was stolen from the house.

The couple were in a shock and could not notice how the robbers escaped from the colony.

Police said that the culprits who had committed the robbery had come to Sambasiva Rao’s house earlier on Monday and spoke to the couple about taking a room for rent in their house.

“During their visit on Monday the robbers told the couple that they would come on Wednesday to pay the advance amount,” Narasimha Reddy said.
