Resignations no solution to statehood for Telangana: Minister

Hyderabad, January 20: Differing with the Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) which is for creating a ”constitutional crisis” in the state to achieve statehood for Telangana, Andhra Pradesh Information Technology Minister K Venkat Reddy today maintained that ”resignations will in no way help realise the goal.”

”The Centre is working on ways to resolve the vexed issue and resignations will only add to the problem by destabilising the Governments both at the Centre and in the State,” he told reporters here.

”If resignation from my post will help realise Telangana, I will be the first person to do so. But it will not serve the purpose. Only when the Congress is in power at the Centre and in the state, Telangana can be realised,” he opined, adding that Telanganites should not suspect their sincerity to the Telangana cause.

”It is not correct to create a constitutional crisis,” he said referring to the JAC’s decision at an emergency meeting on Tuesday to press for acceptance of resignations by appropriate authorities, in the wake of the suicide by Osmania University student Venugopal Reddy yesterday.

He appealed to the students not to end their lives as they were striving for separate Telangana only to ensure a bright future for them.
