Rave party cop was an undercover?

Mumbai, June 29: It has been revealed that Anil Jadhav, the cop who was arrested in a raid at a rave party in Pune was an ‘undercover’ agent. The revelation, if proved true, can once again leave Mumbai Police red-faced.

Jadhav pleading innocence hinted that his arrest was part of a conspiracy hatched by rivals in the department. His lawyers say he was at the party performing official duties undercover.

Jadhav’s lawyer Rizwan Merchant said, “Anil Jadhav was there to only verify information about what was going on.”

But investigators say Jadhav was found socialising with the party organisers inside the resort and neither his seniors nor the local police knew of his operation.

All eyes are now on Jadhav’s police interrogation which will reveal whether he crossed the line between cultivating sources and being friendly with them to the point of complicity.

But the state government is treating the matter very seriously and has suspended Anil Jadhav. Home Minister RR Patil has ordered a thorough scrutiny of all appointments in the department. Afterall this is the second such case of an anti-narcotics officer believed to be crossing the line this year.

Maharashtra Home Minister RR Patil said, “We will check the records of all senior officers of anti narcotics department.”
